De Lichting artist Kaap lands on Heist with an EP full of classic deep house, a secret weapon for your festival summer and a woozy remix by K-Lone

Dutch artist Kaap has an obvious love for classic, analog sounding house with a modern twist. A sound he cultivated through his work on leftfield music platform ‘De Lichting’ with like minds such as Eversines & Nathan Kofi. Kaap lands on Heist with an impressive debut where he showcases his production skills and knack for nailing grooves that would be the highlight of any dj-set. We invited Wisdom Teeth label boss K-lone, who turned out to be a big fan of Kaap and he jumped on the chance to do a remix.

The ‘Sereen’ EP kicks off with ‘Poor man’s paradise’; a vintage deephouse jam that could have easily been ripped from a lost tape from Kerri Chandler. The 90’s New York inspiration is clearly there and Kaap manages to create a sonic world that is as much contemporary as it is throwback. The synths are edgy and rough, the vocal sample sets the perfect mood and the smart step away your every day 4x4 chord loop keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Title track ‘Sereen’ is a mid-west inspired festival monster with hints of classic techno, an acid line that just keeps on going and a huge euphoric breakdown. The track has already been teased on selected festival last year and championed by local heroes such as Carista and the full mix comes in just in time for the 2024 summer season.

K-lone is a man of many talents who effortlessly blends leftfield electronics (checkout his widely acclaimed LP Cape Cira) with moody deephouse. His remix of ‘Poor man’s paradise’ is an altogether soothing affair where dreamy pads accent the vocal which he cleverly puts center stage. The repetitive melody that runs throughout the track is smooth as silk, making this a remix that doesn’t just get stuck in your head; you’ll want to listen to this over and over again.

Can’t Believe takes us into dark warehouse territory with its huge kick drum filling the whole room with a deep energy. Classic delayed synth stabs and a chopped vocal chanting ‘You can’t believe’ seem to come from deep within the bowels of house, making this a track that works just as well for the early hours, as for the after-hours.

The ep closes with ‘Body dripping sweat’; a track that has everything we like about deephouse: sexy vocals, acid licks and great synth programming.

We’re happy to have this extremely talented producer, and fellow dutchman, on the label and we can’t wait to play this one out.

As always, enjoy the music and play it loud!
